Biography

Emil Dimitrov has Master's degree in Physical Geography and Landscape Ecology from Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski". He is a PhD student in the department of Soil Physics working on the theme "Soil spatial-temporal variability of the soil physical properties across the scales". The main research activities are related to studying the variation of soil physical properties under different land uses across landscape and soil digital mapping.

In addition to the project SoilTrEC he is involved in the eContentPlus Program Project GS Soil

Inge Regelink

Wageningen University, The Netherlands

Work Package 1

Roles in SoilTrEC

  • Inge contributes as a PhD student to the modelling of geochemical reactions which is part of work package 1. Particle aggregation is to a large extent controlled by electrochemical interactions. We aim to use mechanistic adsorption models (NICA-Donnan, LCD-model, CD-MUSIC model) to understand the effects of humics and ions on the electrochemical forces among mineral particles We use AsFlowFFF-ICPMS to analyse the size and composition of nanoparticles in soils.

Biography

Florian has a MSc. in environmental engineering from "Ecole Nationale Superieure des Mines de Saint Etienne" in France. He has worked as a water utilities engineer for two years before starting PhD studies in July 2010 at the ETH Zürich. His daily work is based at the SLF Davos, an important partner of the ETH Zürich for the instrumentation of the Damma Glacier CZO.

Biography

MSc. Gorana Rampazzo Todorovic studied at the University of Belgrade, Serbia: Her study and Diploma-thesis were in Soil Sciences. After study, she remained for two years at the University in Belgrade as co-worker in different projects. She started a master course in Pedology in Belgrade. She continued her academic carrier working at the University of Bologna, where she specialized in GIS. She applied her knowledge in Soil Sciences and GIS in the project "Soil degradation and -contamination of agricultural soils in the surrounding area of Pancevo, Vojvodina", at the University of Belgrade. She finished her project with the scholarship of the Italian Government (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) in Bologna. After that, she continued her research on heavy metal pollution of soils in two projects at the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences in Vienna. She finished a master study in 'Natural Resources Management' at the Institute for Soil Research, Department of Forest- and Soil Sciences, University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences, ViennaAfter that she worked in seven different project on different soil topics. Among them, on verification of automatically generated model parameters for detection of soil loss through water in Austria, at the Federal Agency for Water Management, Petzenkirchen, Lower Austria, and application and extension of computer-supported Carbon-models (e.g. Roth-C) for estimation and validation of carbon-pools in 2 Austrian long-term experiments at the Institute for Soil Research, University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences, Vienna. She is enrolled in PhD studies at the Institute for Soil Research, University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences, Vienna Based on her results of calibration of the RothC model, she was invited to join a COST 639 program and work on evaluation of performance of different soil-carbon models for Kyoto-reporting.

Email: kotronakis@gmail.com

Biography

Manos Kotronakis is a phD candidate at the Technical University of Crete (Department of Environmental Engineering). His first degree is in environmental engineering (TUC) and he has a masters degree in Quality Control and Environmental Management. Manos is currently involved in the SoilTrEC project studying carbon sequestration by adding various types of organic amendments in a cultivated field.

Taru Lehtinen

Faculty of Life and Environmental Sciences and Faculty of Earth Sciences

University of Iceland Institute of Soil Research

University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Austria

Work Package 7

Roles in SoilTrEC

  • Taru contributes as a PhD student to the evaluation of what constitutes a sustainable agricultural soil system. Her research focuses on quantifying and characterizing soil organic matter (SOM) pools in different soil aggregate sizes and link them to soil biodiversity and different farming systems (organic vs. conventional) in sub-arctic (Iceland) and continental climate (Austria).
